How LearnTiles handles teacher and student data — written in plain English, not lawyer.

Last updated: May 14, 2026

What we collect from teachers

When a teacher signs up, we store an email address, a display name, a hashed password (or a Google account ID for OAuth sign-in), and the lessons, classes, and rosters they create inside LearnTiles. We use the email address to send sign-in confirmations, password resets, and product update notes — never marketing emails from third parties.

What we collect from students

Students do not create accounts. They join a class with a six-character code and a nickname their teacher approves. We store the nickname, the class membership, and the answers they submit while playing a lesson. We do not collect student email addresses, full names, dates of birth, locations, or device identifiers used for cross-site tracking.

COPPA compliance

LearnTiles is designed to be COPPA-safe by default. Because students are identified only by classroom-scoped nicknames, no personally identifiable information about a child is collected, sold, or shared. See our COPPA notice for the full breakdown.

Where data is stored

Application data lives in a managed MySQL database hosted in the United States. Lesson assets — images and audio uploaded inside the studio — are stored in Cloudflare R2 object storage. We do not currently use third-party analytics or advertising trackers on the marketing site or inside the app.

Cookies

We use a single first-party session cookie to keep teachers signed in. We do not set advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. Students playing a lesson via a join code do not have any cookie set beyond what is required to keep their session running while they play.

Data retention and deletion

Teachers can delete a class, a lesson, or their entire account at any time from the dashboard. Account deletion removes all associated student rosters, nicknames, and play results within 30 days. To request deletion outside the dashboard, email hello@learntiles.com.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we will email registered teachers before the change takes effect.
